Many people call this "Cozy Season", which can be true if you are lucky enough to have a warm place to lay your head and a yummy cup of tea.
However, for the folks Knitting4Peace serves, this can be far from a cozy time of year. It can be a time of anxiety, fear, and stress. I remember when I was younger, how my parents began saving for kerosene for the heaters. Cozy season is a luxury not all are afforded. That is why we are a part of Knitting4Peace. As a part of this community, we can't change the entire world, but we certainly can change the entire world for the children and families we serve.
As we move closer to election day chaos and an evermore doom-filled news cycle, I ask that you take a moment to remember that by creating for K4P you ARE making a difference. Each hat you knit, every finger puppet you struggle through, and the dollars you donate go to make a real, true difference. So, if the world seems to be moving quickly and into a cold, chilly place, pick up your crafting tool of choice, pick a pattern, and get to work. You are making a bigger difference than you know.

Hats from our newest Peace Pod in Loveland, CO |
As a brief note, many of you may be looking for our Annual Fundraising Letter in the mail. We will be sending that out this year but expect it to hit your mailbox in late November/early December. We are trying not to bombard you with our fundraising efforts and we are also trying to make our letter inclusive for both Giving Tuesday (12/3) and Colorado Gives Day (12/10), because many of our community members do not reside in Colorado. Please stay tuned for your incoming snail mail!
Keep calm and craft on- -Kelly

Community Member of the Month: Chicks with Sticks
We would like to introduce you to Darlene D. and the Chicks with Sticks Peace Pod, who were the Top Fundraising Peace Pod during our August Create-a-thon!
This group began over 20 years ago in Highlands Ranch in Colorado. They started out as a church group, making prayer shawls and teaching others to knit. Approximately 10 years ago, Darlene became involved and the group connected with Knitting4Peace, becoming a Peace Pod after being inspired by K4P’s mission.
They have continued to meet since that time and welcomed new members, even Zooming through Covid times.
Chicks with Sticks is a small, but mighty Pod, consistently donating baby blankets, hats, scarves, mittens, and Peace Pals. They meet monthly and one member recently shared her knowledge of Tunisian crochet, so Darlene has been practicing her skills by making scarves using this technique. We can’t wait to see them!
Thanks, Darlene and Chicks with Sticks! We are grateful for your financial and knitted donations. We appreciate your ongoing partnership with Knitting4Peace in caring for others! |

Be a Pal. Double check your Peace Pals!
Did you attend or view the Peace Pal Workshop during the Create-a-thon? If not, you can watch the replay on YouTube You’ll be able to meet Barbara and Evelyn, who shared their experiences and many very specific tips for making high quality Peace Pals. Together, they’ve made THOUSANDS of Peace Pals and are quite inspiring.
Specific instructions may be found on our website at Peace Pal Patterns You may also view a video on making the faces for Peace Pals on the K4P YouTube Channel |
| A few reminders as you make Peace Pals: -
Please make Pals with realistic skin tones—tan, medium brown, or dark brown only.
- All Peace Pals must have friendly faces, with smiles! No “x” eyes or button eyes!
-
Pals should be between 5-7” in height.
- Please do not send in animals or other kinds of dolls as they are not requested by our community.

Pals & cold-weather items |

Peace Pals with hijabs by September Community Member of the Month, Kathleen. |
|
|
We are running quite low on Peace Pals and have not been able to fill all the requests we’ve received lately. We particularly need more Pals with dark faces and are now totally out of Peace Pals with hijabs. We’ve found it’s easiest if the pals and hijabs come in together. We can ALWAYS use cold-weather items—hats, scarves (especially youth sizes!), and mittens. Thank you for all you do in warming the bodies and hearts of children and adults! |

Are you ready to be a
Peace Maker? |
What are the Peace Makers? Peace Makers are friends who choose to make a monthly donation to Knitting4Peace. There are several levels of being a Peace Maker and you can choose what best suits you! Each level is named after a revolutionary crafter who we find inspiring. You can learn all about them HERE
I already donate- why does being a Peace Maker matter? Monthly donations, no matter the size, are what sustain K4P. It is regular, consistent revenue that we can rely on and utilize each month. We appreciate any and all donations whenever someone chooses, but it is good to know we can rely on the monthly Peace Makers to sustain our programming each month.
What benefit do I get if I am a monthly Peace Maker? There are tons of benefits! From workshops and prize drawing entries, to useful and thoughtful K4P merchandise. It all depends on what level you choose to give. However, the biggest benefit is knowing you are sustaining a very small nonprofit every single month. How do I join? It is easy! Simply go to https://www.coloradogives.org/donate/Knitting4Peace
Once on the webpage, make sure to select "Monthly Donation" instead of "One-time Donation". Once you complete the donation, we get an email notification and will sign you up for your level! If you are not an online person, that's ok! Just let us know that you plan to send a monthly check and we will be on the look out for that. We are SO grateful for our existing monthly donors and we simply couldn't get through each year without you! Thank you for your belief in our mission! |

Please note:
Our donation intake is run solely by volunteers. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to immediately acknowledge each package as it arrives. Remember, you can always track your package with your carrier.
Remember, mailing costs qualify as tax-deductible nonprofit donations. Keep your receipts! Due to a lack of storage, K4P cannot accept yarn donations unless they are new and still in the original wrapper. Thank you for understanding. |
