I am at a loss for words. And it's not because I've used them all up promoting the Create-A-Thon for the last month, it's because I am so overwhelmed with gratitude for you all. I am proud to announce that we reached our $6,000 goal. It's unbelievable and we are all humbled by your generosity. While the financial aspect of the Create-A-Thon is incredibly important to sustaining our mission, it is the feeling of community we felt during this event. We had over 70 folks sign up for our 4 free workshops! Our workshops had makers on both coasts and everywhere in between! Maine, New York, California, Oregon, Missouri, Kansas, and of course Colorado! When we say K4P is truly a national community, we mean it!

The intake volunteers, Jo, and myself see so many names when we open donation boxes and envelopes. This was our time to put faces to names and it was absolutely wonderful. What a joy to meet Linda's Jake the Parrot and Beverly's sweet Lucy cat. Learning more about our makers and their reasons for joining K4P was simply inspiring. I want to thank you ALL for joining us over the past month. It was such a pleasure to meet you all!
As you will see below, we have officially returned to normally scheduled newsletter programming. Our regular highlights are back and I hope you enjoy them.
Please stay tuned to social media for our announcements about Create-A-Thon winners for Top Fundraising Peace Pod and Top Fundraising Maker. I will also be sharing the Peace Pod Panel and more! From the bottom of my heart, thank you. -Kelly |

Community Member of the Month: The Ravelry Peace Pod
Did you know that the largest Peace Pod in the Knitting4Peace network has over 400 members? The Ravelry Peace Pod meets online and is, by far, the most expansive Pod with members participating from across the country and even internationally. As with most Peace Pods, not all members are super active, but there currently is a strong, core group of individuals who regularly show up to ask questions, offer help and suggestions, encourage each other, and just chat about all things knitting, crocheting, and Knitting4Peace.
The Ravelry Peace Pod was created by Sarah D. who learned of Knitting4Peace while attending the Chautauqua Institute in New York back in 2012. Sarah was already a member of Ravelry, which is “an inclusive, friendly website for knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, and dyers” that offers patterns and an opportunity for connection with others. Inspired by what she had learned at the K4P presentation in Chautauqua, Sarah soon gathered fellow makers to create the first Knitting4Peace virtual Peace Pod. She served as the Pod moderator and head K4P cheerleader for many years before turning over the moderation reins to Kim H., who continues in this role today.
In addition to informal discussions and occasional Zoom calls, the Ravelry Peace Pod sponsors several special events throughout the year. These include the “Just One More” October event, the Blanket Square Project, and participating in the K4P Create-a-thon. The annual Peace Palapalooza is a month-long event in May where individuals focus on making Peace Pals and/or finger puppets while chatting about patterns and troubleshooting problems. Over 80 Peace Pals were made during this year’s event!
A huge advantage of this unique Peace Pod is that the activities are virtual so members can participate whenever it is convenient for them. This makes it an excellent option for those who do not have a local Peace Pod, who might have challenges getting to in-person meetings, or those who just prefer virtual interactions. Individuals who belong to local Peace Pods are welcomed and often find friendship, support, and new patterns in the Ravelry Pod. Evelyn H. points out that “the friends we meet on Ravelry are no less authentic than those we meet in person.”

Scarf Tips!
Here are some tips to ensure that your scarves will be most useful and can be quickly sent out to those in need: -
Teen/Adult Scarves should be between 4”-8” in width, and 50”-70” in length
- Youth Scarves for students in elementary schools and programs serving children should be 4”-5” in width, and 40”-60” in length.
-
We do not send out scarves for children younger than age 5 so 4” width/40” length is the smallest size we can use.
- Please do NOT send in lightweight fashion scarves as we currently are not receiving requests for these and cannot distribute them. We DO have a great need for WARM scarves!
- Remember to sew in yarn ends and make sure there is no pet hair or perfume scents on the scarves. We do not have the capacity to clean scarves before sending them out.

We need hats and scarves! We know it’s hard to believe in these sweltering temperatures, but we are already receiving many requests for cold weather items!
Please keep those hats, scarves, and mittens coming so we are prepared to meet the need. We receive numerous requests for both youth and adult sizes. Thank you for your generosity! |

Please note:
Our donation intake is run solely by volunteers. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to immediately acknowledge each package as it arrives. Remember, you can always track your package with your carrier.
Remember, mailing costs qualify as tax-deductible nonprofit donations. Keep your receipts! Due to a lack of storage, K4P cannot accept yarn donations unless they are new and still in the original wrapper. Thank you for understanding. |
