We are happy to announce the release of Knitting4Peace's 2023 Annual Report. You can find that linked on our website HERE. This will shed light on where we donate and how we use your precious donations, both material and financial. Thank you all for your kind words about our new website! We are trying to make changes that positively impact our entire community. I'm also grateful for your patience as we continue to tweak aspects of the website. I am working on adding more Peace Pods and have reworded parts of the patterns based on your feedback, so thank you!
As many of you are aware we have been working on a transition to a new donation platform called Kindful. Unfortunately, in the last couple of months Kindful has drastically increased their fees, which has rendered it useless for us as we work to save our donors (and K4P) money on processing fees. If you have made a recurring donation through Kindful I will reach out to you individually and ask that you switch back to Colorado Gives. It's incredibly frustrating and I apologize for the inconvenience. We were so excited about the prospect, but more and more fundraising platforms are sadly pricing out small nonprofits. I have updated the donation page on the website to direct to Colorado Gives once again.

Finally, we have had SO many new newsletter subscribers! Welcome to you all! I'm so grateful that our regular readers are forwarding this newsletter on to friends, family, and fellow makers. We have had nearly 60 brand new subscribers and we hope you all become part of the K4P family! Sending you all a tulip from my garden and wishing you a lovely month of May, -Kelly |

| Community Member of the Month: Growing Up Healthy (Creciendo Sanos) in Guatemala
In December 2023, Claudia Rivera, the Guatemalan program manager for Growing Up Healthy and Melisa Jaenisch, Center for Global Health (Denver) liaison, visited with a group of Knitting4Peace makers. For several years, Knitting for Peace has donated knitted baby articles to this unique program in rural Guatemala. After so many years, Claudia was able to thank Knitting4Peace in person for their generosity and explain how meaningful the knitted articles were for new mothers in the program.
The Growing up Healthy program is a maternal child health nurse home visiting program in rural Guatemala that provides health screenings, education, and basic medications to pregnant women and new mothers in the 12 surrounding communities. A team of 8 local Guatemalan nurses staff the program and work with families in clinic and home locations. As we visited with Claudia and Melisa, we learned that baby blankets, booties, finger puppets, and Peace Pals are distributed to families on a schedule, so that they receive an item at each of their visits with one of the nurses. It was wonderful to hear that these items are truly needed and very much appreciated.
Your donations are making a huge difference in rural Guatemala and we thank you for being our partner in this important endeavor. For more information, please click HERE. |

We are so grateful for your donations and are working hard to keep the K4P website updated with consistency guidelines. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or concerns. As always, we welcome your ongoing donations of hats, scarves, mittens, Peace Pals, baby blankets, booties, and finger puppets. Please check with us before sending in any items that are not on this list of regularly requested items. Please note that we are continuing to update our sizing standards on the website to remain consistent across all our platforms. We are working on fixing any discrepancies. If in doubt email info@knitting4peace.org and we will send you the correct measurements. Just a couple notes this month: -
Scarves should be 4"-8" in width and 45"-80" in length
- We cannot send out any hats that are less than 13" in diameter
As always thank you for being a community of fabulous makers! |

Peace Pals &
Small Baby Blankets |
| |
|
As the summer months approach and our Community Partners plan trips abroad, we are in great need of Peace Pals, particularly those with medium brown skin tones. We also need tan and dark brown skin tones, as well as Peace Pals with hijabs. Small baby blankets that are between 26” and 30” on each side are always in short supply. They are quickly sent out to our Community Partners as soon as we receive them. This is the size we distribute to the Growing Up Healthy program in Guatemala (our Community Member of the Month this month!) and the University of Colorado NICU program. |

Please note: Our donation intake is run solely by volunteers. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to immediately acknowledge each package as it arrives. Remember, you can always track your package with your carrier.
Remember, mailing costs qualify as tax-deductible nonprofit donations. Keep your receipts! Due to a lack of storage, K4P cannot accept yarn donations unless they are new and still in the original wrapper.
Thank you for understanding. |
