Hi friends-
Many people ask what our offices look like and want to know how we store the lovely goodies you all send in. Our offices are very small and generously donated to us by Park Hill Congregational Church.
We also have a storage unit offsite where we store large items and prepare for large (1,000+) deliveries. We do our best to stay organized and hopefully these photos give some insight into where your items go when you drop them in the mail!!
ATTN PEACE PODS:
In an effort to create even more community programming, we are considering a virtual gathering of our Peace Pods and makers. We want to learn from you and help other makers make an impact in their community. During this gathering we want to have a conversation about how you find places to donate in your community, how do you run a successful Pod, and other issues that may help others. I am also considering a quarterly Peace Pod newsletter. If any of this would interest you (or make you spitting mad), please email me at kelly@knitting4peace.org.

Community Member of the Month: Nancy G. From New York |
“It’s just knit and purl. Everything else is a variation.” Those are the words of wisdom that have propelled Nancy G. to learn to make often complex knitted items, as well as to teach knitting at a local library. It was Nancy’s mother who taught her to knit when she was very young and in her early crafting days she also loved making thread crochet items. Nancy’s knitting really took off during the pandemic and, after creating many shawls and Aran knits for her family and friends, Nancy sought out an organization in need of her abundance of items. After a focus on making hats for one organization and becoming a bit bored, Nancy found Knitting4Peace, which fueled her interest in making a wider variety of items. Nancy challenged herself to learn to make the items requested in the K4P newsletters, many of which were new to her. Using YouTube and her “It’s just knit and purl” mantra, Nancy taught herself to make many different items, including mittens, finger puppets, and Peace Pals.
Nancy shared that she finds knitting to be quite meditative and it has also helped keep her occupied during the long New York winters, particularly when she was recovering from knee surgery. She has recently joined the Knitting Guild Association in nearby Albany and suggests that others who don’t live near Peace Pods might enjoy spending time with a similar group of like-minded crafters in their area.
These days, Nancy particularly likes making Peace Pals and appreciates the way she can use her many scraps. While creating the Pals, Nancy enjoys thinking of where the Peace Pals might be going, who might be receiving them, and what they would most like to see. She loves using novelty yarn to make sure they have “elegant coiffures” and have fun personalities. We are so grateful to Nancy for consistently sending in items and helping us to fill our bins. Her mittens have warmed countless hands and her special Peace Pals have no doubt brought much joy to children around the world! Thanks, Nancy, for being our April Community Member of the Month!

Consistency is Key: Infant Items
We receive many requests for infant items and are grateful to you for helping to meet this need.
Here are a few friendly reminders of our guidelines: -Please do NOT send in any premie items as we are unable to distribute the smallest sizes. -Infant hats must have a circumference of 13” or larger. Hats up to 18” circumference are worn by children younger than age 3. We love seeing all the fun colors you use! -Booties may be made out of any soft and washable yarn and should be 3”- 4” from heel to toe. Please use a piece of yarn to tie pairs together. Do not use safety pins as these must be removed. -Infant blankets must be at least 26” by 26”. Please do not send any blankets that are smaller than 26” on the shortest side. Blankets that are 26” – 30” on each side are needed most.
Avoid making blankets that are lacey or have holes as tiny fingers, toes, or IV tubes may get caught in them.
-Animal hair and strong scents can be a health risk, especially for infants and young children so please make sure there are no hairs or scents on any item you send us. |

Item Requests: Medium-Dark tone Peace Pals & Hats and Scarves in youth sizes
URGENT REQUEST: Many of our Community Partners, both individuals and organizations, travel internationally in the summer months and take Peace Pals along to share with children.
We currently have ZERO Peace Pals with dark skin tones to send with them so have an urgent need! We can also use medium skin tones.
As we look ahead to fall, we know that we will need an abundance of warm hats and scarves for children. We currently are well-stocked with adult items so would be most appreciative of the smaller sizes for children, ages 2-12. |

Please note: Our donation intake is run solely by volunteers. Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to immediately acknowledge each package as it arrives. Remember, you can always track your package with your carrier.
Remember, mailing costs qualify as tax-deductible nonprofit donations. Keep your receipts! Due to a lack of storage, K4P cannot accept yarn donations unless they are new and still in the original wrapper.
Thank you for understanding. |
